Keynote speak: The next wave of employer branding strategy

“Employer branding sucks as it is right now.”
That’s how our Co-Founder, Jonas Molbech, opened his talk at the Empple employer branding festival in Belgrade, Serbia. In a hybrid setting, with a mix of in-person attendees and an online audience, the stage was set for a riveting session.

Such a strong statement was bound to get reactions. Indeed, it did. Some audience members gave a standing ovation in agreement, while others reportedly left the room, finding the talk too challenging for their taste. One attendee even said on LinkedIn, “Jonas Molbech-Kuskner is the epitome of authenticity in himself. Different, edgy, “crazy enough” to challenge the dominant way of thinking about employer branding.”

Jonas had three main takeaways for the audience:

Future-Proof Strategy: The next wave of employer branding strategy should be flexible and rooted in execution, data-driven, and adaptable.
Authenticity is Key: Brands need to stay genuine to resonate with audiences.
Human Touch: Humanized brands are the future. They build scalable connections, are more trustworthy, and stand out from the crowd.
But it wasn’t just about presenting ideas. Jonas shared our journey at Hume Agency. How we’re flipping the traditional approach to strategy creation on its head. We believe in action, in executing strategies upfront. We learn, adjust, and fine-tune based on real-life feedback and data. This dynamic approach means we’re flexible, responsive, and always ahead of the curve. That’s how you operate in the fast-paced environment of startups and scaleups, if you ask us.

A standout moment from the talk was Jonas’s exclamation, “Fuck the Employer Value Proposition (EVP)!” It wasn’t said for shock value, but rather to challenge established norms. This sentiment resonated with many, leading to a spontaneous outburst of support from the audience and a flurry of comments on LinkedIn.

Another highlight was the narrative of our evolution at Hume Agency. We have adapted, listened to the market, learned from our mistakes, and improved our processes. Today, our goal is clear: to revolutionize employer branding strategy creation. Strategies should live and thrive in the real world, not being stuck in fancy PowerPoint presentations.

The keynote wrapped with Jonas emphasizing the power of humanized brands, how they can foster genuine connections, increase trust, and differentiate themselves in a competitive market.

Post-event, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Jonas’s first international speaking engagement undoubtedly left its mark, splitting the audience and igniting conversations on the future of employer branding. And if this talk was anything to go by, there’s more to come. Stay tuned for updates on Jonas’s upcoming speaking engagements – we promise they’ll be just as thought-provoking!

About Kasper

Kasper works on bringing people’s stories to life. Through conversations he draws out what is interesting and turns it into content that engages and creates visibility.

He is genuinely curious and loves to listen – and that is also where his strength lies.

“I pick up on the nuances and try to bring out the best in the people I work with.”

Kasper keeps up with the world around him, always looking for new angles to make the stories even stronger.

A good day for Kasper is when there have been inspiring meetings, good conversations and the feeling that we have created something great together.

As a colleague he contributes with a great sense of humour, overview and a hug when needed.

In his private life his time goes to his girlfriend and dog – and to ideas. Lots of ideas…

“I always have 25 ideas for every 24 hours of the day.”

About Christian

Christian works on advising and executing on our clients’ LinkedIn strategy. Concretely, it is about finding the angles in their profiles that can become authentic content and strengthen their personal brand.

“People connect with people.”

What he is strongest at is understanding the person behind the profile. Quickly figuring out who they are, what they stand for – and what the right personal angle is. For Christian everything starts with the relationship.

“If that isn’t strong, I don’t get access to what I need in order to write great content.”

A good day for Christian is when there have been good client meetings and he has created results. What motivates him is quite simple: that the clients succeed. He sees it as a privilege to be allowed to be part of a client’s personal journey.

As a colleague he contributes with great energy, humour and closeness – and cares deeply about transparency and making sure the people around him are doing well.

In his private life he is a father of two – and that takes up everything right now. And he is the type where “what you see is what you get”… even though for many years he lied about being allergic to wasps.

About Line

Line works with marketing, branding and content – where creativity, strategy and execution meet. She helps businesses figure out what they are missing and how to move forward.

She is attentive, analytical and full of ideas – and nerds out on… everything.

“Anything I can nerd out on – and preferably 10 things at once.”

A good day for Line is when she has crossed off her to-do’s while good old R&B tracks play in the background – and when she simultaneously feels that she has made a difference and been there for her colleagues.

She is motivated by pushing ideas through and creating something that actually moves the needle.

As a colleague she contributes with great energy, curiosity and presence – and a good conversation about everything under the sun.

In her private life she is often out with her dog in the forest (preferably in rubber boots), at the gym – or busy filling up her camera roll. And yes… she was a role-player as a child.

About Josephine

Josephine works with communication and marketing, and is among other things responsible for Hume’s LinkedIn profile. She is also involved in various projects across the website and cases.

She is good at coming up with ideas and seeing them all the way through to life – even when the path isn’t entirely clear from the start.

“When I’m given a task, I take ownership and work my way through to a solution.”

She thrives with sparring, different perspectives, and is motivated by being able to put her own stamp on things and develop along the way.

A good day for Josephine is when deadlines are met – and when she is surrounded by her colleagues:

“Their great energy and teamwork give me both motivation and joy in my work.”

As a colleague she contributes with infectiously positive energy and a great sense of humour.

In her spare time she spends a lot of time with her friends and family. She also loves cooking and staying active. And she is the type who knows all the melodies – but none of the lyrics.

About Johannes

Johannes is a Co-Founder, bad with words, but razor-sharp in a spreadsheet – something his girlfriend would potentially have appreciated if it were the other way around :).

He works on optimising operations and results for our clients through data analysis and business understanding in close collaboration with the right experts.

Jonas says he is an eternal realist, but he sees himself as the perfectionist realist who keeps his nose to the grindstone when ideas start pulling in all directions.

On top of that he manages the company card with a firm hand and ensures that more money comes into the business than goes out… A role that means he has to play the bad guy from time to time… Which he says he doesn’t like, but deep down enjoys just a little.

About Jonas

Jonas is a Co-Founder and works with business development, sales and branding – but in practice he takes on whatever hats are missing.

He is good at quickly understanding situations and finding solutions – and at hyping the people around him.

“That’s also a weakness… it’s not always what you want, to have a solution to everything you say out loud.”

Right now he is especially focused on becoming a better leader as the team grows.

A good day is when the team is in flow – whether that’s laughing over a beer or being in full “war-room” mode on a case.

“It’s pretty awesome to be a part of.”

As a colleague he is the eternal optimist who sees opportunities and helps with direction.

In his private life he spends time with his girlfriend, football and life in Copenhagen – although he himself says his knees are like those of a 78-year-old. And he also needs to recharge every now and then… preferably with a sofa and Netflix.
